I'm in the process of fabricating a new kit (just lined up a supplier for mild steel up to 10 ga, and started stocking up on tools) and was wondering if anyone had a pattern for gauntlets or articulated knees/elbows lying around that I might be able to copy?

The ashcraft-baker equipment that I've bought (or seen) has all been solid, workmanlike gear.

I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone looking for an inexpensive set of beginner gear.

When I was knighted, I was so skinny that you could count my ribs at a hundred paces.

Sir John the Mad Celt in Meridies was really short and small. After a bout, people routinely checked their shields for his footprints. It was the only logical explanation for how he seemed to have spent the entire fight looking down at them. But there were never any footprints!

I found some good training videos at this website: www.midrealm.org/kith/kith.

One of them (the one on targetting, I believe), showed a pell with pairs of dowel pegs sticking out of it at various locations and angles. These represented the "slots" you were trying to hit, when it's not good enough just to hit the location, you have to hit it at the correct angle to get past their defense.

                                      Greetings!

The Barony of Windmasters' Hill is hosting a Pas d'armes at Farm Ventures in
Leasburg, NC, June 13-15.

http://www.windmastershill.org/pas/

There will be a host of A&S activities for everyone to enjoy:

Artisan's Row!
We would like to invite artisans to consider joining the Artisan's Row
-- a place where you can demonstrate your craft to others. If you are
interested in participating in the Artisan's Row please contact
Tréphina. Please indicate the activity you will be doing and the size
of your tent or day shade so that we might accommodate you on the
field. Individuals, groups, or guilds are encouraged to participate
and show others the things you love to do!

A&S Competitions and Displays: Children as well as Adults are
encouraged to participate!

Poetry contest!
Baron James of Middle Aston, Poetia Atlantia, is sponsoring a poetry
contest. The virtues highlighted at the Pas are Chivalry, Prowess,
Countenance, and Magnificence. Create verse that encompasses and
extols one or more of these virtues. Instill courage in the hearts of
fighters or honor those who idealize these virtues. Documentation is
encouraged.

Display your heraldry!
One important feature of a Pas is the pomp and pageantry with the
display of heraldry in banners, pennants, standards, and in clothing.
We invite you to display and/or wear your heraldry around the field to
add to the spectacle and ceremony of the event with a most beautiful
display of your heraldry. Documentation is encouraged. At the end of
the day participants will be encouraged to display their banners,
pennants, and standards around the feast hall to be enjoyed during the
wonderful feast prepared by Mistress Clare de Crecy.

Accessories! Accessories! (that which separates us from the animals!)
Headgear, pouches, veils, jewelry, belts, shoes, ... we know personal
accessories can make the look and complete the kit. There will be an
A&S competition that focuses on personal accessories for the
mid-1400s. One page documentation is required, with additional pages
as appendices and references.

If there are questions about the Arts and Sciences activities please
contact Lady Trephina (trephina at gmail dot com). It's going to be
lots of fun!

In 1455, Baron Gaston of Windmasters' Hill traveled on a diplomatic visit to Barcelona. Here, he and his inspiration, Baroness Rosalind Delamere have declared that they and their chosen Tenans will defend the Mysterious Forest from all Venans (Challengers). In the Barony of Windmasters' Hill on the 14th Day of June, shall the lists be erected with a pine tree with golden fir cones on one end.

In 1455, Baron Gaston of Windmasters' Hill traveled on a diplomatic
visit to Barcelona. Here, he and his inspiration, Baroness Rosalind
Delamere, have declared that they and their chosen Tenans will defend
the Mysterious Forest from all Venans (Challengers). In the Barony of
Windmasters' Hill on the 14th day of June, shall the lists be erected
with a pine tree with golden fir cones on one end.

Their Excellencies invite all Challengers (rapier and armoured) to a
Grand Pas. Friday night the celebrations will begin with a Torchlight
Ball. For, if you do not yet have a consort, here might you find one.

After the day breaks on Saturday, those who participate in rapier
combat shall challenge one another in a tournament followed by a Grand
Melee. There shall then be a respite and then those of armoured skill
will take their place upon the field and prove their worthiness prior
to to a Grand Melee.

All will be followed by a sumptuous feast in the evening.
Additionally, we invite those of artistic inclination to share their
work and join us for various activities, including an Artisan's Row.

Martial Activities: All participants (armoured and rapier) shall
conduct themselves with the utmost care to advance the ideals of
chivalry. Each will be announced as they seek entry into the Pas. You
are encouraged to bring your own herald, banners, etc. to make your
presence known and add to the day's pageantry. There shall be single
rounds of combat both at the barrier and one against the other. At the
end of the day, a grand melee shall commence. For more information
about weapons and armour requirements, as well as a more detailed
description of the tournament, please see the event website or contact
